A few decades ago, Israeli agricultural researchers successfully developed pitaya cultivars that not only looked stunning but also had flavors to match. Venus is one of two rare dragon fruit varieties cultivated in Israel, with fruits harvested from June through the end of the year. The Venus variety is self-fertile and features vibrant red flesh both inside and out. It is particularly resistant to both hot and cold weather conditions. The other variety, Bilu, has magenta-colored flesh inside.
Selenicereus CostaricensisAmong Red Fleshed Costa Rican types, Venus remains to be one of the best. Of this type it is the only one I put on par with Kesslau. In flavor and expectations of fruit size they are pretty equal, I think Venus might just be a bit slower to get going. Don't be fooled by reputation of some others, It is firm yet juicy, strongly tart and sweet when picked early to a usual sweetening completely when left longer if that is your style.
