Makisupa is a hybrid Dragon Fruit variety from Selenicereus Undatus and Selenicereus polyrhizus.
Cuttings are immense and three-sided with medium-sized spins along the rib line. Another characteristic of this variety is the growth tends to curl and twist.
The Dragon Fruit is a vining, terrestrial with fleshy stems. White, fragrant flowers adorn the plant in late spring to early fall.
The flowers of Makisupa are large, measuring over 15 inches across, with white inner petals white and outer petals yellow, fading to red on the tips. This variety is said to be self-fertile. However, the many have reported that it needs cross-pollination to set fruit.
This Dragon Fruit variety is an excellent red fleshed fruit with a sweet yet slightly astringent taste. The fruit is attractive, having short green fins spindled around the reddish-pink skin. Fruits are medium to large, weighing one to one and a quarter pounds with semi-firm flesh and an average brix rating of 15. The average weight of a Makisupa dragon fruit is 0.7–1.2 lbs (317–544 g). This variety of dragon fruit is large in size and has a dark pink color with green tips.
