La Verne Pink Dragon Fruit

La Verne Pink Dragon Fruit variety is a hybrid cross using a Selenicereus Undatus and Selenicereus Guatemalensis. This variety gets its name from a nursery in Southern California.

The plant growth of La Verne Pink is typical of undatus growth in size and color. The stems are segmented and three-sided with small thorns. This variety does an exceptional job handling the summer heat grown in full sun. Pruning is necessary as we found that growth segments can get very long.

Flower bud to flower open took 20 days. The flowers are at their largest when fully open a few hours after sunset, then close a couple hours after sunrise. Flowering starts in July and continues through the fall. La Verne Pink flowers resemble flowers of most undatus species, and we are testing for self-fertility.

The fruits of this variety are perfectly round and weigh about one pound. The flesh is soft pink, and the skin is pink to red and green fins. This fruit is cosmetically perfect every single time, with minimal scars. From flower to fruit, it took 32 days. The flesh is juicy with a nice firm texture and an average brix of 18. We find the perfect balance between sweetness and acidity in this variety, making it one of the best-tasting Pink Flesh varieties
