Country Roads Dragon Fruit variety comes from the genus Selenicereus and the species Costaricensisis. Growing this variety side by side next to S. Costaricensisis tells us they are very closely related, and many aspects are the same.
Growth of Country Roads is extra large, three-sided with medium size spines along the rib. The growth is easily three times the size of typical Selenicereus species.
The flower buds emerge with a red outline on the edges of the bud. The night-blooming flowers are enormous at 15 inches and need assistance to set fruit as this variety is not self-pollinating.
When the fruit is produced, they are about a pound with red flesh. This flesh has a firm texture with a tangy kiwi-type flavor registering a brix rating of 20.5. The fruit has an attractive external appearance with a perfectly round shape, The red skin fading to green fins that protrude away and curl down from the fruit.
